I am a Brooklyn-based photographic artist interested in the narrative, symbolic and poetic possibilities of imagery, and have explored the potential of photographing from unusual points of view, combining multiple images on a single surface in a darkroom and most recently juxtaposing and layering images digitally. My most recent project focuses on current Jewish-Muslim relations and explores the potential of montage to highlight similarities, explore differences and visualize a conversion of dichotomies
into coexistences
I'm beginning to think about the differences between the muslim and jewish communities. I would really like to visit and photograph Israel, the west bank and Jordan but for now am working with the images I have from Paris and Istanbul.
Today I decided to take a break from constructing images and reflect a bit on the work I've done during the last two weeks and also in the last year. I put 30 images up at http://www.sharidiamond.net/theresistanceintwoparts/. This represents part one and each image is created by combining two images (mosque + synagogue) taken in Paris and Istanbul. During the next two weeks I will explore what part two might look like.
Yesterday I was feeling tired and not particularly inspired.
But today is a new day. No work snow day. White and lovely outside.
A night quite finished posting tonight.
I am still working with photographs taken of synagogues and mosques in Istanbul.
Trying to bring them together seamlessly to highlight the similarities of these two communities.
